"A very different trip. Really enjoyed watching the crew
work (they do well with all
these eyes watching every move). Were you
responsible for the great weather as well as the accommodations? Special thanks to the chief cook
- her smile was appreciated along with her good food."

Hike the wild Nootka Island Trail
The MV Uchuck III will drop you off to hike the 35-km Nootka Island Trail

Access Vancouver Island's newest remote coastal trail with the MV Uchuck III! With the famed West Coast Trail becoming so crowded that people planning to hike it need reservations, the Nootka Island Trail offers a 35-kilometre hike through the same kind of wild, pristine wilderness, but without the crowds.

Air Nootka (250-283-2255) will drop off hikers at the north end of the trail. Consisting almost exclusively of beach walking, the hike allows for seeing black bears, wolves, cougars, eagles, sea otters, whales, sea lions; for showering under Calvin Creek waterfall; swimming and body surfing in the ocean; exploring ancient middens and mounds where once stood long houses; investigating the life in tidal pools, and beach-combing for treasures.

Eventually, tired but happy, arrive four or five days later at Yuquot, or Friendly Cove where the Uchuck III will pick-up on Monday, Wednesday or Saturday during our summer schedule.

Challenging, not a trek for the unfit or faint hearted, the Nootka Island Trail offers immense satisfaction for those who hike it.
